Here is our 2008 version of the Beloit Snappers Batter and Pitcher of the Year. This season, there were plenty of great prospects in Beloit, but these two prospects really stood out. Take a look at who takes home the honors this season.

Batter of the Year: Ben Revere, Outfielder

Little question here as to whom would be named Batter of the Year for the Beloit Snappers, after 2007 first round pick Ben Revere totally outplayed every prospect in the Midwest League in 2008. The young speedster was named Midwest League Player of the Year for his efforts, after batting an incredible .379 in his first seson of full-season baseball. Revere, who many questioned after his selection as the Twins first round pick in 2007, proved all doubters wrong in 2008, putting together one of the better seasons of any prospect in baseball. Revere, playing in 83 games, hit ten triples, 17 doubles, and notched 44 stolen bases. He also showed incredible discipline at the plate for such a young prospect, striking out only 31 times all season long. The Twins could not be happier with his development thus far, and are excited to see what he does in Fort Myers next season.

Honorable Mention: Chris Parmelee (14HR, 49RBI), Steven Singleton (.302BA, 71H)

Pitcher of the Year: Michael McCardell, Starting Pitcher

Many scouts and writers thought McCardell was a fluke last season, after he put up some gaudy numbers at short-season Elizabethton. However, McCardell was just as dominant in the Midwest League during the 2008 season, as he was stellar in his 22 appearances for the Snappers. The young right-hander made 21 starts for Beloit, posting a 2.84 earned run average, and won eight games against four. Tossing one complete game, McCardell struck out better than a batter per inning this past season, and incredibly walked only 25 in 135.1 innings of work. He will likely anchor the starting rotation in Fort Myers next season.

Honorable Mention: Michael Allen (14G, 1.75ERA), Steven Hirschfield (16GS, 3.30ERA, 10W), Charles Nolte (44G, 2.05ERA), Spencer Steedley (31G, 2.14ERA), Matthew Williams (2.09ERA, 42K in 38.2IP)
