Burnett, Santiesteban Lead Beloit In Game One

The Snappers knew that to win their first round series with Quad Cities, they would have to win Game One on the road. The Snappers did just that on Wednesday, taking the opener 3-0 behind some strong pitching, and some clutch hitting.

The Beloit Snappers kicked off the 2007 Midwest League playoffs in style on Wednesday, blanking Quad Cities 3-0. Starter Alex Burnett was great on the hill for the Snappers, and Danny Santiesteban led the way with two hits. The series now moves to Beloit for games one and two, and you have to believe that the Snappers are in the driver's seat.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Snappers went to work. Steven Singleton and Rene Tosoni both doubled to open the frame, with Singleton scoring on Tosoni's hit. Tosoni continue to impress this season, and should be a starter for Beloit in 2008.

After Chris Parmelee grounded out, moving Tosoni to third, Greg Yersich hit the Snappers' third double of the inning, plating Tosoni, and giving Beloit a 2-0 lead. Santiesteban would then single Yersich to third, and after a walk and a pitching change, Garrett Olson would score Yersich with a sacrifice fly.

That would be all the scoring that the Snappers would need, as Dan Leatherman relieved Burnett in the sixth inning. The young right-hander, who is one of the top relievers in the Twins organization, tossed three innings of one-hit ball, before handing the ball over to Anthony Slama for the save.

The Snappers can win the series on Thursday.
