The Twins affiliates managed only one win on Monday, as Elizabethton and Rochester had the night off. The lone win was by the GCL Twins, who squeaked by the GCL Reds 7-6. In other action, New Britain got 13 hits in a loss to New Hampshire, Beloit was two-hit by Kane County, and Erik Lis drove in his 90th run in an 8-2 loss to Dunedin.

The Gulf Coast League Twins were the only Twins Minor League affiliate to win on Monday, as they squeaked past the GCL Reds 7-6. Third Baseman Juan Richardson continued his hot hitting, going 1-2 at the plate, and drove in two runs. The two runs batted in gave him 31 on the young season, as he boosted his batting average to .317.

Daniel Berlind picked up his sixth win of the season, tossing six innings of one-run ball. In those frames, Berlind allowed five hits, walked one, struck out one, and lowered his season earned run average to 1.94. Daniel Rondon pitched the ninth inning, allowing two runs (one earned), but did pick up a strikeout. In earning his 12th save of the season, Rondon saw his earned run average rise to 0.82. He has been one of the more dominant closers in the GCL this season.

2007 First Rounder Ben Revere picked up two hits in the game, raising his batting average to .318. Nick Biagini had a great game at the plate as well, driving in two runs, while swiping his second base of the season. Of the Twins starting position players, only James Beresford did not record a base hit.

Other Notables:

  • New Britain outfielder Garrett Guzman picked up three hits on Monday, raising his batting average to .309. Also in that game, which was a 4-2 loss to New Hampshire, Brandon Roberts had three hits as well, and David Winfree and Matthew Moses both had two knocks. Moses also swiped his sixth base of the season.

  • The Fort Myers Miracle mustered only four hits on Monday, though they got the hits from the usual suspects. Juan Portes had two hits, as he continues to rake as of late, and Erik Lis and Danny Valencia both had a knock. Lis drove in a run in the game, giving him 90 ribbies this season. One of Portes’ two hits was his fifth triple of the season.

  • Beloit was baffled by Kane County on Monday, as they only managed to pick up two hits in the game. One bright spot in the game was Matthew Fox, who pitched three scoreless innings in relief. The former top prospect struck out three along the way, and lowered his earned run average to 3.53.
