The Cincinnati Reds drafted Zach Ward in the third round of the 2005 draft, selecting the young right-hander out of Gardner-Webb University. The Twins acquired Ward in exchange for Kyle Lohse midway through the 2006 season, after Ward got off to a 7-0 start for the Reds Low-A affiliate.
