Edlich made his professional debut on June 27, and had a pretty decent outing. He started, and went four innings, allowing two earned runs. He also struck out three and walked one.
He would then settle in as the ace of the Twins rotation, as he allowed only seven earned runs in his final nine starts in the Gulf Coast League. He even pitched two scoreless innings of relief on July 29 against the GCL Red Sox.
His best outing of the year was a 6.2 innings performance against the GCL Pirates. In that game, he struck out 13 batters, while allowing only one earned run.
For the season, Edlich finished first in the GCL in ERA, with a 1.70 mark, and finished third in strikeouts with 53. Also impressive, he allowed only one home run in 47.2 innings of work.
His play at the GCL level earned him a promotion to the Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League. Impressive considering he is only 19-years old and playing his first season of professional baseball.
He struggled at the High-A level, as the Miracle used him out of the bullpen for two appearances. However, he should be slated for the Miracle pitching staff in 2006, whether it is from the bullpen, or in the starting rotation. One thing is for sure, the Twins have found another gem from Australia.
