Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/18

Andrus went 3-for-4 with two doubles

Rangers lineup stalwarts Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus both had big games on Tuesday, combining to go 5-for-8 with three doubles and a home run. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Dominican Winter League

Although Nelson Cruz has played well in the Dominican Winter League thus far, he hadn't flashed his excellent power––until Tuesday, that is. Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double (his first) and a solo home run (also his first).

Aguilas Cibaenas sidearming closer Johan Yan earned his fourth save after tossing a pair of scoreless innings. Yan gave up two hits but induced three groundouts and fanned one.

Splitting the game between right and center fields, Engel Beltre went 0-for-2 but reached on a hit-by pitch for Licey. The speedster was also picked off at first base once.

Venezuelan Winter League

Elvis Andrus finally broke out of his slump at the plate on Tuesday by going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and his third stolen base. He was also caught stealing once.

Aragua's Yangervis Solarte, playing at second base, singled once in four at-bats.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared in Mexico on Tuesday.

Puerto Rican Winter League

The Leones de Ponce dropped to 10-20 on the Puerto Rican campaign after Tuesday's 7-2 loss to Mayaguez.

Despite the loss, leadoff hitter Jared Hoying played well, going 2-for-4 with his second triple. Catcher Kevin Torres played the game's first seven innings and singled once in two trips.

Zach Zaneski finished the contest behind the plate for Ponce, though he didn't get a plate appearance.

Lefty reliever Alexander Claudio was knocked around for two runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one but also allowed an inherited runner to score.
